Appeal for the preservation of the associations locally

10 814 garden friends indulge in their hobby in the district of Lichtenfels. A slight decrease of 160 members, noted district chairman District Administrator Christian Meibner at the general meeting of the district association for horticulture and land conservation in the TSV gymnasium Marktzeuln. The members of the Lichtenfelser city association were no longer statistically recorded, since the association was dissolved in 2016.
Mayor Gregor Friedlein-Zech regretted the dissolution of the local fruit and gardening association Marktzeuln on 28. October 2016. “It is a great loss for us”, he said in his greeting. Not only a piece of tradition is missing with the association founded in 1886, but now the building yard maintains the plants at great expense “but not as beautifully as the association had done for decades”.
For the district chairman this example was of great importance. He appealed passionately to the club boards: “Keep the clubs alive, dissolved is fast”. With the example of Marktzeuln, one can see only years later how a horticultural association had worked beneficially. In the past year no association would have dissolved. In Mainroth, Horsdorf-Loffeld and Oberbrunn the number of members had even increased.
Maria Puls was awarded the honorary jug of the district association. Chairman Meibner stressed: “It made itself merited both around its local association Lahm and in our circle federation.” For more than 25 years, it had played an important role in shaping village life in Lahm. Until January 2018 she was the first chairwoman and could now put the leadership of the association in younger hands. In the district association, she has been honorary secretary since 2007 and is therefore responsible for the minutes of the meetings.
From the horticultural point of view the weather was divided, the district chairman looked back. The vegetables were happy about the constant rain, but the fruit had suffered during the cold nights in April. That would have affected the yield of the juice mobile. It had been on 20 days in the employment and filled 22,000 liters. In the previous year, 53,000 liters were pressed on 32 days.
At the annual general meeting, the new chairmen of the local associations were introduced and their predecessors bid farewell. The newly elected were Angelika Schutz from Lahm (predecessor Maria Puls), Christine Kroner from Obristfeld (Harry Daumann), Joachim Beyer from Puchitz (Sabine Olschewski), Jurgen Ros from Strossendorf (Jan Riedel), Katja Schopke from Unterneuses (Edeltraut Bohmer), Bianca Rauch from Wunkendorf (Gertrud Frankenberger), Philipp Schaffner from Zilgendorf (Thomas Quinger). Hermine Schutz from Kosten, Gabi Will and Gerlinde Gruber from Pfaffendorf, Elke Brinschwitz from Prugel received the gardening card.

Program presented

District technical advisor Michal Stromer presented the annual program 2018. He attached special importance to the “MainGartentag” in the box yard Weismain on 6. May to. District chairwoman Gudrun Brendel-Fischer said there was a need to catch up in fruit tree care. The district now offers year-round courses. The newly qualified beekeeper saw the evil in the decline of bees not only in the spraying of pesticides but also in the lack of shrubs and flowering plants. The “Graatzer Dreigesang” got in the mood for the coming season with spring songs.
The expert advisor for beekeeping in Upper Franconia, Barbara Bartsch, gave a lecture on gardens and bees. It advertised for “intelligent Flower boxes. Geraniums and fuchsias decorated many houses, but the flowers could not offer much to the bees. Andreas Welz
